Finally we setted this rendering to show what it is about. Basically we propose to manufacture the curtain ribbons in semi-transparent PU foils to use it also for projection presentations.
The Programmable Curtain is a screen which uses parametric design principles to control the location and extent of its openings. Made up of a series of twisting strips, the curtain can change from being a complete barrier to being almost completely open.
Through the Grasshopper definition, any curve can be selected and used as the basis for the screen. The controllable parameters include the height of the screen, the number of strips, the degree of twisting at the top and bottom of the strips, and the position of a movable clamp along the length of the strips. Attractor points ultimately determine which strips will twist and by how much. By using attractor points, factors such as the direction of sunlight or axes of sight can be taken into account.
Here you can access the Grasshopper definition of the curtain plus movies of the curtain in action.
